Proactive Monitoring Process™

The PMP consists of five steps:

  1. Understand each customer's unique monitoring needs.
  2. Identify Critical Monitoring Parameters™
  3. Develop monitoring thresholds, goals and objectives
  4. Develop WebSphere Monitoring Strategy™
  5. Monitor and adjust the strategy as necessary

The following is a short description of each of the five steps.

Identify Customers Unique Monitoring Requirements

Personnel from WebSphere Experts' integration and monitoring teams work with customers to design and implement a monitoring strategy to fit each customer's unique monitoring requirements.

Identify Critical Monitoring Parameters™

The next step is to take the monitoring requirements document produced in Step 1 to identify the most important WebSphere environmental parameters to monitor. There are literally thousands of indicators to choose from. The monitoring requirements document allows the monitoring specialists from the Proactive Montiroing Center to choose those key indicators that will provide the monitoring output required to WebSphere and prevent WebSphere issues from occurring.

Develop monitoring thresholds, goals and objectives

Once the CMP's are selected, step three establishes, thresholds, goals and objectives for each of the selected parameters.

Develop Proactive Monitoring Strategy™

Once the threshold goals and objectives are set, a data capture, storage, analysis and preventative process strategy is designed to accomplish the goals and objectives.

Implement, monitor and adjust the strategy as necessary

The monitoring strategy that best fits each customer's unique monitoring needs is then implemented. Monitors get installed, and monitoring and data collection starts.

WebSphere application environments are wonderfully complex and dynamic. Since many things can change, Proactive Monitoring Center specialists monitor the strategy's effectiveness relative to the goals and make adjustments as necessary to ensure continuous alignment.
